Ukraine war
Are we prohibited from discussing it here? Just wondered. The topic seems to have been missing on main stream media for some time now. There is plenty to be found online if you dig for it. Of course Gaza is the hot topic just now and tends to keep age old prejudices burning brightly but even the passing of a 90s TV personality seems to appeal more than a full scale invasion of a country bordering the EU.
I'm not having a dig at this forum. The half dozen I frequent are all the same. Its like people have the attention span of a goldfish.

On my headstone it will say: Please switch off mobile phones. I'm trying to get some sleep.

Still think about them everyday, and still hope/wish for something awful to happen to Putain (hence my hopes were momentarily raised with news of a stroke/heart attack last week). It is difficult to find out what's going on, that's how fickle the media is - last I heard was that Russia (Kremlin troops) were regrouping to prepare for a winter attack. B*stards.
They're now being dragged into the Israel/Gaza conflict, beg pardon, Israel's inhumane obliteration of Gaza. I see a "Mob" of Palestinians rampaged through a Russian airport, closing it down, hunting for Jews apparently. So that might give Putrid something else to think about on his doorstep.
Why is it that war is so much easier than peace? I guess peace doesn't generate so much income .....

@Hotrodder Just because people choose to talk about lighter topics on a forum doesn't mean they are not aware or interested in the horrors that are going on in Ukraine and of course, more recently, Gaza.
Don't be so quick to judge us by what we do write because you've no idea what we do but don't write about. Some of us are actually involved in helping refugees and asylum seekers but whilst we are not assermenté, we are bound by medical secrecy and a respect for confidentiality.
Some of what we hear about is pretty harrowing and the last thing I would do would be to discuss it on a forum.

According to the link, the last post was over a year ago.
So my comment above stands.

I too have noticed that the news headlines seem to have pushed the war in Ukraine aside preferring to give more coverage to the war in Gaza.
As to forum discussions on either subject - well, it is all incredibly depressing. Watching television news or reading online news sites is really distressing. Yet, we must remain informed. But, that might be about where it stops for me at least. We stay in close contact with our family and keep as up to date as possible on what is happening in the world. And that takes up quite a bit of time.
The rest of my time, I would rather try to focus on the positive things in life and leave the subject of war to those who want to post about it.

Totally understandable @Lori knowing that the Gaza/Israel war is affecting your family.
War is always distressing and sometimes there are no words to describe how it can affect us and discussing it isn't always the answer.

@ Hotrodder, please don't worry about gold fish memories. We have been (re)reading quite a lot of books here. Also about Russian history: Anne Applebaum (The Iron Curtain: The Crushing of Eastern-Europe), Hedrick Smith (The new Russians), R.A. Medvedev (Let history judge), Andrew Lownie (Stalin's Englishman), SusanButler (Roosevelt and Stalin, also about the Teheran and Yalta conferences), Michael MccGwir (Perestroika and Soviet National Security), the Bucharest NATO Summit Declaration ( point 23) etc.
Together with the daily press tsunami that's really enough. Trying to answer technical questions on forums, sharing pictures, doesn't mean that I'm a suitable case for treatment, memory loss. Just looking on the bright side of life....
