I still think it's amazing

I mainly read novels, in English, but I buy them from Amazon.fr. Most I pay no more than 0.99c, and currently have around 1500 on my Amazon account. I watch very little TV or vodeos, so reading - now that I'm retired - is almost a full-time activity. I wouldn't be without it.

I use the Kindle app on my iPad but the books are also available on my iPhone for the rare occasion when that is useful. One of the huge advantages of the system is having the lit screen, it allows me to read when camping when reading a conventional book would be difficult.

The reason I asked is because a friend in UK gets a lot of music downloaded to his phone. He pays a monthly fee to get access to thousands of titles. The downside (he says) is if he becomes skint and can't afford to keep paying the fee he loses the music. It isn't stored where he can get at it. I think I will hang on to my LP, CD, and cassettes as they have all seen a revival recently.

All the music I’ve ever downloaded is mine to keep. It’s stored online and can be accessed by all of my devices. No monthly payments just a one off purchase price.

The only way you could lose your books is if you lose your Amazon account or get it taken away. (Banned for suspected fraudulent activity. )

If that is the case then my question is answered. You don't have it to physically backup to your own storage device. You only have temporary access to where some other entity is storing it.

You can store them locally. On mine there is always a mixture of titles stored on my device and titles that need downloading before they can be read. Downloading takes seconds.

As I recently discovered, though, best to make sure that everything you might want is downloaded before straying from the house or a dependable source of free WiFi

I came to the end of a book I was reading during an extremely long wait at the doctors.
About a minute on a mobile network thanks to my Free 2€ monthly subscription soon had another downloaded.
