Voitures Anciennes

Reading your post, it sounded like you were describing a 60's beach buggy. But as it turns out, it looks a lot like dozens of limited production kit cars in the late 50's early 60's. Such a great time for petrol heads. Free thinking home brew car building and modification sadly is no longer tolerated. :(
On my headstone it will say: Please switch off mobile phones. I'm trying to get some sleep.

@ Hotrodder translated from the 'Mitteldeutsche Zeitung' (31-03-2019):

'......the two Burg professors Eberhard Scharnowski and Klaus Arndt decided in 1973 to build the car themselves, which was not available in the GDR. Shortly before, as the late Eberhard Scharnowski later described, the GDR had stopped the attempt to develop a plastic glider.

Parts that had been designed by Scharnowski and Arndt together with students at what was then the University of Industrial Mould Design were simply scrapped. ‘To dispel the disappointment and make use of the accumulated expertise, we decided to develop an aerodynamically advantageous body made of glass fibre plastic in our spare time.’

The body consists of two shells and the lower one, which forms the vehicle floor, is so smooth that there are hardly any vortices, which still increase air resistance in normal vehicles today.

There is no large corporation behind the experiment, no 'Kombinat' (an industrial business group), not even a small VEB ('Volkseigener Betrieb'). Just two men and a crazy plan. After months of searching, Arndt and Scharnowski found a former file-cutting workshop in a backyard on Franckeplatz in Halle that was scheduled for demolition. Upstairs on the first floor, the unique piece named after the glass fibre composite Roving - a fabric made from Buna polyester and glass textiles from Oschatz - is built."

I hope you don’t mind me cutting across the current thread topic. This morning I took my old Volvo to our local garage for its ten year timing belt change. Sitting on the small forecourt was this colourful 2CV.

I was a bit rushed when I posted it. At least the images are correct when selecting them separately. I must set aside a few minutes to reduce the image size and make it appear the right way up.

I watched most of the 24 minutes video. The cost of a new one is rather high for me so it will not be on the shopping list.
