A bit of proper sunshine brings a few interesting cars (and bikes) out around here. Yesterday I heard a car struggling and spluttering coming up the hill. A Ferrari obviously being taken out for its first run since last summer. Don't ask me which model, they all look the same to me. Once he turned onto the the main road he poured on plenty of revs and managed to get it to fire on all 8 or 12 (who the feck knows how many). Sounded like an F1 car for at least a mile before having to slow up for the 50 limit entering the town.
On my headstone it will say: Please switch off mobile phones. I'm trying to get some sleep.

Very smart that Lancia Stratos. I have a story concerning a Stratos. It's a few years now and I was competing in the rallye Neige et Glace in the "petit Siberie" de la France. Difficult starting the car in the morning with -16°c. Anyway, on one of the timed stages we came upon a Stratos stopped and the two guys photographing the car in the snow. We were furious as it blocked us. I paid the fee and complained to the organisers. The fee was returned with the comment that they would adjust our time and have a word with the driver. All kept low key as the car was entered by the sponsor.(a VERY well known watch maker)!

The common denominator is snow, the image is more static. My old Mercedes 220 D, no need for speed: about 1470 kg, engine type OM 615 with 60 hp. A very short history of the Mercedes diesels.

I have no way of knowing the actual speeds they were achieving around that corner but my impression is that the E-types did as good a job of keeping control as the better Porsches. Racing is not my bag but it was interesting to see the differences. And why the heck was the Studebaker even there?

The E types were quick, that's true. The entry list has quite a wide range of cars, hence the Studebaker. Although perhaps too many Porsches?

To the city of Venlo in the Netherlands. Keulsepoort filling station is the oldest filling station in the Netherlands and dates back to the thirties. It was built as a service station for The American Petroleum Company, as from 1938 known as ESSO. In 1933 its construction was ultramodern. This petrol station played a starring role for Venlo in the Monte Carlo Rally before 1940, when there was a stopover there. Several prewar photos in this information, not available in English. At your service, day and night.. Now converted to a lunchroom, a lot of ice cream and beer, fill her up.....
The great gas station renovation.
