If the missing airman is captured, and we can only pray he isn't, the Iranians will make mileage out of it. But it could be something that would make Americans turn against the Trump dictatorship.

If found dead Trump will be in serious trouble.

Taken out of context your sentence has quite another meaning. :D

Either context would be useful.

The missing US airman has apparently been found and is now safe, which is wonderful.
BBC wrote:Both crew members from the downed F-15 fighter jet have now been rescued - the pilot and the weapon systems officer
The second crew member "sustained injuries" but "will be just fine", Trump says - the BBC understands injuries may have happened when the crew ejected from the aircraft after it was struck by Iran
Trump says no Americans were killed or wounded in the rescue
The BBC understands there was "engagement" between US and Iranian forces during the operation

I sincerely hope that this news isn't fake as with Trump for me Seeing is believing - sorry to be negative.

I think the BBC are careful to verify such information before publishing. I believe the airmen wear some sort of transponder to enable them to be located in the event of a bale-out.

So the rescue of one (two?) airman whose plane is a write-off caused the loss of another two aircraft and a helicopter at a cost of many million dollars? Does nobody do a cost effectiveness calculation?

They could have borrowed, at no cost, a SAS squad for a training exercise.

@beejay Cost effectiveness ? Can you put a price on human life ?
The second rescued man was a weapons systems officer. For the Iranians to capture such a man would be a huge coup for them in terms of moral and a bargaining chip quite apart from what they might have prised out of him in terms of specialist knowledge.

Bravo to the US special forces for their rescues. I doubt anyone would have sanctioned putting British boots on the ground in Iran.

I’m sure if it was your family member you would want them rescuing quickly and never mind the cost
Can you imagine the difficulty in getting an SAS unit together and out to Iran in the necessary time frame plus the outrage?
