Sweet chilli jam

#1 Post by L Austin France »

Just found a jar of sweet chilli jam I made in 2016.
The lid was well sealed & jam tastes fine & hot.
OK to eat?

Usually there's a sort of "tit" on the top of a jam jar lid. If it's still there, there shouldn't be a problem.
Otherwise if it's hot spice, it would probably have killed any lurking bugs !

Lid fine & needed knife under it to let in air before I could open it. Sauce really hot.
Had some last night with ribs and chips with no ill effects so far :D

I see no reason not to consume it. The vinegar, spices and sugar all help to preserve the contents, and with a well sealed lid and no signs of mould, there are no negative indications.
Enjoy
