Utter madness, we haven't had any significant rain since the 10th may, and today I drove through a small town about 10km from us as the crow flies, and they have posters up advertising a firework display on Saturday night.

It really is beyond belief the ignorance of some humans when everything is so dry. Yesterday was our closest call (to date) - a farm fire of one of our neighbours, just 5km away (just up the road from where we used to run a Pépinière if anyone remembers that).

"25 hectares détruits par le feu, de très nombreuses maisons sauvées par les sapeurs pompiers lors des DPS. Noyage et traitement des lisières en cours."

I don't know if there is a correlation between the alarming number of fires started on purpose this year, and an article in the Sud Ouest about the FN voting against recruiting more firemen, giving wage increases, better equipment etc, etc, but it does make you think - they are worth every penny and more that they get to keep us safe....and the Le Pen team for some reason don't agree? (I stand to be corrected, as always!)

We've had a few drops of rain .... but probably not enough. People still being evacuated but in much smaller numbers and generally those who need some sort of medical assistance etc

I read there was finally some optimism that the fires were at least contained....so hope it stays that way and they can extinguish them completely. Weird how some houses were untouched, but others completely destroyed - it's heartbreaking seeing the damage.

Take care of yourselves down there, we're due some rain too - but we need a lot, like you say - preferably without lightning strikes!
