Re: Somewhere in France - Guess Where
I didn't think anyone on here would have visited it 'tis Théâtre gallo-romain d'Argentomagus - not far from Argenton sur Creuse.

I want the place, but if you can identify the railway line it will help.

Mountains and red trains look southern to me. I'd have said Chamonix but the mountains don't look pointed enough.

Been to Argenton & Gargillesse Dampierre several times but not been t the Théatre.
There used to be a lovely little hotel in Gargillesse.

It's a guess Mont Sainte Victoire near Aix - Arc River Valley viaduct.
It looked familiar from this painting by Cezanne

Some good guesses and in the right general area (somewhere between Chamonix and Ste Victoire) but no cigars yet.
The picture was taken the year before the line suddenly and unexpectedly shut. It has now reopened and the picture could theoretically be taken again.

OK another clue.
What can you see behind the front of the train?
It is something that AFAIK is very rare between Chamonix and Var. Indeed not that common in the South of France. It was the raison d'etre for the railway being built.
