When is time to hang up the driving gloves for the final time - metaphorically speaking?

@curtis I had to walk in a straight line, touch my toes - I told him I hadn't drunk anything
I think they just make something up to justify their time !

And there were only certain doctors that did this "special" test.

Why would you lose either of those categories?
Because I have read on various forums about them been left off, either deliberately or by a mistake, the French only have a limit of 3.5 tonnes on a normal licence, hence most of the motorhomes are up to 3.5T. I suppose in France you would have have a Class 2 category for anything bigger.
Nothing should be left off unless you opt out of the categories that require a medical certificate. Neither trailers nor motorcycles require a medical so should be transferred. If they’re not there it will be corrected.

Most important to have a copy of your licence before you surrender. Have heard of categories not being transferred and refused afterwards as no proof.

I did hear a while back that you can't hire a car if over 70, but can't remember if that's UK or France. I can't find any French official/gouv site that actually says this.
I believe it’s the car hire companies who don’t want to take the insurance risk, I don’t think it has any thing to do with the ‘government’.

Well it would seem that Hertz and Avis in France are happy to rent vehicles to people who are 70+ years old . Or maybe it depends on the agency,; at Marseille airport renting through those two companies through Autoeurope was fine when 70+.
