I think Covid rather took the shine off the hotel and he saw an opportunity to do another major renovation.
Anyone remember Odette? From what I remember she was a bit of a marmite character and quite a few did not rely relate to her back in the day. That might be rather different now that many of the less permanent Francophiles have moved on.
